A third option
Judging uses a tremendous amount of our energy and inner
resources. Being non-judgmental uses much less, nonetheless
there is still energy drained when we trigger that mechanism to
stop our likely overwhelming social conditioning to judge.
Another option is to move beyond being judgmental or non-
judgmental and simply learning to observe without opinion.
Difficult, yes initially very. Impossible? No. Try it for
thirty minutes one day. Choose a location like a busy street or
perhaps sitting in a crowded shopping mall.
Attempt to have no opinion on the physical features or
attractiveness of other people (and yourself for that matter),
the selection of their chosen attire and the attitude their
gait projects
To the extent you can remain in this mind set; to that
degree you will experience a remarkable calmness and serenity.
Nothing will bother you, because you have removed that which is
susceptible to outside influences.
When you don't judge, you are also relieved of the judgement
of others. Unfortunately the harsher the manner in which you
judge others, the greater the burden of judgement that you will
necessarily feel upon yourself.
Choose a third option, to simply have no opinion! Your
senses will still naturally record incoming stimuli but with an
absence of opinion. Be aware of how centered and undisturbed
you will feel at these times. Just try it.
